Attention - This Notice Contains Important Information About Your Texas Federal Credit Union Visa® Debit Card

This notice is to inform you that within the next eight weeks, you will be receiving a new debit card! Your new debit card will come equipped with an EMV chip, one of the most effective tools being used to prevent the spread of credit card fraud.

EMV (Europay, MasterCard®, Visa®) is micro-chip technology that provides increased security capabilities. EMV chip cards are equipped with a small metallic square on the front of the card that holds card information. Originating in Europe, EMV technology has been instrumental in preventing the spread of credit card fraud, and will be the chosen method of payment in the United States within the next few years.

Your new card will be sent to the address we have on file (the same address listed above). If the information above is incorrect, you can change your address using online account access or by contacting Member Services at 800-242-9132, Option 4. Once you receive your card, be sure to activate it right away to ensure you have the most up to date protection from fraud possible.

Your new EMV chip debit card will include the magnetic strip your current card has, giving you dual- purpose technology to enhance your purchasing capabilities. This means that you will be able to use the EMV chip at retailers who support EMV processing, and the magnetic strip at all other locations. Remember to chose credit whenever possible to avoid processing fees!

Your existing debit card will cease to work after Monday, August 21, 2017. To activate your new TFCU EMV smart chip card, simply call the telephone number printed on the label adhered to the front of -your card. For security purposes, we suggest destroying your current card, after activating your new EMV smart chip card.

Why are we replacing your existing debit card with an EMV chip card?
Texas Federal Credit union is moving to cards with EMV chip technology in order to provide more security against unauthorized use for in-store purchases.

How does chip technology protect my information?
Whenever you use your chip card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a one-time use code, which is difficult to counterfeit.

Where can I use my chip card?
You can use your card at millions of places that accept Visa debit cards - at home and around the world.

Can I swipe my chip card to pay?
Yes. If a merchant is not chip-enabled, you can continue to swipe your chip card and select credit to sign for your transaction or enter your PIN.

Will I receive a new card number?
Yes.Your EMV Debit Card will have a new card number and a new expiration date.

Will my Personal Identification Number (PIN) change?
Yes. You will receive a new PIN in a separate mailing.

Can I use my debit chip card at the ATM?
Yes. You can still use the card to get cash. Simply insert the chip end of the card with the chip facing up. You will still be required to enter your PIN and your card will remain in the terminal until the transaction is complete. If the terminal is not chip activated, just swipe your card as usual.

What do I need to do?
1. Activate and begin using your new chip card right away.
2. Destroy your old debit card after you've activated your new chip card. 3. Provide your new card information to any merchants that automatically bill your old card.


Depending on the type of card reader or ATM that you're using to make a transaction , yo ur experience may differ slightly. Here's a guide for making transact ions using your new card.


Insert your card into the slot with the chip facing up. Do not remove your card until the transaction is complete.


Follow the prompts on the card reader as you normally would. Ifthe merchant or ATM is not equipped with a chip-enabled card reader, just swipe your card as usual.


Sign or enter your PIN to complete the transaction and don't forget to remove your card when finished!

Things to remember:

ACTIVATE your new EMV Debit Card as soon as your card is received.

UPDATE your new card information with your bill payment services before August 21, 2017.

DESTROY your old Debit Card. Your old card will not work after August 21, 2017
